  Noteringar	Thorlin had an interesting military career that began with enlisted service in the Oregon Nation Guard in 1930-36. He attended the Naval Academy, majoring in Marine Engineering, for one year during 1937-38. He must have dropped out of the Naval Academy and went back into the Oregon NG. He was commissioned in the US Army in 1942 and attended tank destroyer school, serving as the XO for 643 TD BN. During 1943 he attends Parachute School at Ft. Benning, GA and then attends Field Artillery School. He is assigned to the Airborne Command as a Field Artillery Officer (Btry Commander) and then becomes an OSS Instructor during late 1943-44.
