    • The Oppressive Heat Results In the Death of John Carlquist, a Farm Laborer.
      Just as we are going to press, last Wednesday afternoon, word reached us of the death from sunstroke of a laborer employed on the Handy farm, a short distance northwest of the village. We were unable to learn the particulars of the unfortunate affair and what meager reports could be obtained were conflicting. Later information gave the man’s true name as John Carlquist, who had been employed on the farm for several months by Peter Hallbom. On Wednesday forenoon the heat was so oppressive that the men at work in the field began to feel the effects of it and had to discontinue work for a time. Carlquist was seriously affected by the sun’s hot rays and was removed from work suffering with a case of sunstroke. He had drank some cold water during the morning which proved injurious to his overheated condition. The man was taken with convulsions and died at noon. A physician had been summoned, but arrived too late to be of any assistance.
      The remains were brought to Willmar in the afternoon and place in charge of Undertaker Olson, who had the body embalmed and prepared for burial. The funeral took place at Tripolis Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock, Rev. S. A. Lindholm officiating. The remains were interred in the Swedish Lutheran cemetery.
      Carlquist was a married man, leaving a widow and two children in straitened circumstances. He was 26 years of age. The sad affair casts a gloom over the community and the afflicted ones have the heartfelt sympathy of all in their bereavement.”
      The Swedish Lutheran cemetery is now called the Tripolis Lutheran cemetery.
